The heart of our community has lost a cherished piece. Leanne Schlegel, queen of pro-bono family law for the last nearly 15 years, died at home last week after battling cancer. She was a mother, foster mom, grandmother, sister, friend, mentor, and in the 1970s, a camp fire leader, wife and school teacher. She sang in her church choir for nearly 40 years. Leanne was a tremendous community and legal volunteer throughout her life. She's won respect from her peers, no matter the field; and numerous awards, the last of which was the 2005 C.C. Bar Association lifetime service award. She leaves a huge void, and takes a piece of our hearts with her. She's loved and missed. Her memorial services are this Saturday, March 25, at the Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church at 55 Eckly Lane, Walnut Creek, (925) 934-3135. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to: The Martinez Education Foundation, The Law Center in Martinez, or Camp Fire Girls
