A tow truck driver hit and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 680 in Walnut Creek early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. near the Main Street exit, when the truck hit a man who was in the northbound lanes, California Highway Patrol Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said. His name and age were not released pending notification of family members.
CHP closed lanes on northbound 680 for about two hours after the crash.
Authorities are looking into whether the pedestrian may have had alcohol or drugs in his system, Wilkenfeld said.
“We’re still investigating why this pedestrian was on the freeway,” he said.
The tow truck driver stopped at the scene and has cooperated with authorities, Wilkenfeld said.
